A Mass Flow Meter measures the amount of fluid passing through a pipeline based on mass rather than only volume. One of the major advantages of a Coriolis Mass Flow Meter is that it can provide direct mass flow measurement without relying solely on separate pressure and temperature compensation. Many Coriolis meters can also provide density and temperature information, making them useful where several process parameters need to be monitored from a single instrument.


These meters are widely considered for applications involving chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, fuel transfer and batching systems. Their high accuracy makes them particularly valuable when even a small measurement error can result in material loss or affect product quality.


RPD Meter for Reliable Gas Flow Measurement


For gas applications, an RPD Meter (Rotary Positive Displacement Meter) offers a different measurement approach. Instead of measuring mass directly, an RPD meter measures a known volume of gas by mechanically displacing fixed quantities through the meter.


Inside the meter, specially designed rotors rotate as gas passes through the measuring chamber. Each rotation represents a defined volume, and the rotational movement is converted into a flow reading. Because of this positive displacement principle, RPD Meters a can provide dependable volumetric measurement, including at relatively low flow rates.


They are commonly used for natural gas, industrial gas and commercial gas measurement, particularly where accurate consumption measurement and billing are important. Proper filtration and suitable installation are important because contaminants in the gas can affect the mechanical components of the meter.


How to Select the Right Flow Meter


There is no single flow meter that is suitable for every industrial application. A Mass Flow Meter `may be appropriate when mass-based process monitoring is required, while a Coriolis Mass Flow Meter is preferred for demanding applications requiring high accuracy and additional process information. For clean gas measurement, an RPD Meter can be a practical and reliable choice.

Before selecting any industrial flow meter, engineers should evaluate the fluid type, flow range, pressure, temperature, density, viscosity, pipe size and required output signal. Correct sizing and installation are just as important as the meter technology itself.
